We see from your search that you're looking for information on the term "Linear Encoder", and we have a large number of manufacturers' news releases and technical articles here on Engineeringtalk which will be of interest. Let me be your guide.

Start with the news release Goniometer stages prevent backlash from Aerotech, which we summarised at the time by saying "Aerotech's ANT-20G goniometer stages have a curvilinear direct-drive brushless servomotor that provides cog-free smoothness, solid in-position stability and zero backlash performance". A couple of weeks before, we featured the news release Encoder measures where others fear to tread from Renishaw: "Noncontact magnetic sensing delivers reliability in applications too dusty, dirty, greasy or destructive for optical encoders, and provides OEMs with major cost savings".

In October 2007, we covered the news from PI (Physik Instrumente) concerning its Linear stages provide compact solution - take a look at Linear stages provide compact solution which says: "A direct metrology linear encoder with 0.1um resolution provides high linearity and positioning accuracy".

Take a look also at the news release from Aerotech, Positioning stage offers high throughput, as well as Precision stages boost accuracy from PI (Physik Instrumente), and Linear encoders rejuvenate lathes from Newall Measurement Systems.
