Start with the news release Automated inspection device needs no PLC from Firstsight Vision, which we summarised at the time by saying "Firstsight Vision is offering a new approach to smart imaging for machine vision applications with the introduction of the VA21 from ipd". A few weeks before, we featured the news release PC-based vision system improves probe quality from Cognex UK: "Point Technologies has recently applied motion and vision to a new area in the semiconductor industry: probe needle inspection".
 
In October 2006, we covered the news from National Instruments concerning its Vision Builder for Automated Inspection - take a look at Machine vision software needs no programming which says: "NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (AI) Version 3.0 is the latest upgrade to the interactive software for configuring, benchmarking and deploying machine vision applications".
