Adam Equipment Company has opened a new manufacturing facility in Wuhan, central China.

The company is believed to be the first from the UK to open a wholly owned subsidiary in modern day China since the opening up of the China market to overseas investment.

The opening ceremony was held on 31st August 2005.

A large number of local Chinese suppliers, representatives of other British companies, local and regional politicians and government representatives attended as well as the French Consul representing EC interests in Wuhan.

Senior UK management were in attendance and hosted a banquet for the guests and were later invited to an informal dinner with the Deputy Mayor of Wuhan.

The new facility has been built to exacting standards and boasts two separate temperature controlled rooms, clinically clean electronic assembly area and a QC test department fitted with the latest test equipment.

The China factory will produce a new range of balances designed by the UK based research and development unit.

Initially, the production will be for Adam Equipment's worldwide distribution network supported by the company's subsidiaries in the USA, South Africa and now China and the company's sales office in Australia as well as from the UK headquarters.

Early in 2006 sales are expected to commence in the local China market.

Alan Storey, the Managing Director of Adam Equipment, said: "This investment represented a new phase in the company's development and was expected to improve the company's competitiveness against, German, Japanese and US companies already with established factories in China".
