ABB has appointed EDC (Electronic Drives and Controls Limited) - already an ABB Drives Alliance member - as the new ABB Motor Service Partner for Scotland

ABB has appointed EDC (Electronic Drives and Controls Limited), in Dalry, south of Glasgow, as the new ABB Motor Service Partner for Scotland.

The new Partner is already an ABB Drives Alliance member for Scotland.

This means customers in Scotland can now benefit from in-depth motor and drives expertise under one roof.

"We have been dealing with motors for a long time, but until now only as part of drives packages.

Now, we will be handling motors as a volume product as well, which should increase our turnover by some 30%," says Allan Murray, managing director of EDC.

"We have worked with ABB's motors for a very long time - between us in the company, we have more than 40 years experience.

We will now build on that experience, aiming to make ABB the market leader in Scotland for low voltage AC motors within five years," Murray continues.

As part of ABB Motor Service partners, the company will deliver motors up to 37 kW within three hours, up to 132 kW within 24 hours and up to 400 kW within 72 hours.

It will also select and install the correct motor for any application, repair and maintain motors and connected machinery, undertake planned maintenance schemes, stock motors on behalf of customers, and conduct energy surveys.

EDC will set up permanent arrangements with two local motor rewind companies to provide quality rewinds to the guidelines set out by AEMT, the Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades.

ABB Motor Service Partners is a national network of independent service companies, backed by ABB Automation, servicing users of low voltage AC motors.

ABB Drives Alliance is a similar group of companies committed to providing service of the highest standard to users of variable speed AC drives.
