ABB's drives for the HVAC sector are now supported by software drivers for the Compass protocol conversion system, from North Communications.

ABB's drives for the HVAC sector are now supported by software drivers for the Compass protocol conversion system, from North Communications.

This means that the drives now have seamless connectivity to more than 200 standard and proprietary protocols, including Trend IQ BMS systems.

This enables full integration of ABB's HVAC drives with any building management system.

Compass provides an off-the-shelf, standard protocol to connect disparate devices and proprietary protocols onto a single, common open platform.

Up to 20 ABB drives may be connected to each Compass Point, providing an economical solution for installations with multiple drives.

Parameters such as motor frequency, alarm condition, start/stop, commands and current feedback can be accessed by any Compass-compatible third-party system.

Compass, already proven in some 7000 installations worldwide and used by more than 50 UK systems builders, is available either through ABB or directly from Brighton-based North Communications.
