ABB has condensed more than 20 years of experience in designing, manufacturing and selling low voltage soft starters into the publication of a new handbook.

ABB has condensed more than 20 years of experience in designing, manufacturing and selling low voltage soft starters into the publication of a new handbook which is intended to provide a useful guide for anyone working with soft starter applications as well as those interested in learning more about this type of starting method.

The 86-page soft starter handbook is packed with diagrams, illustrations and colour photographs which will be of interest to both novice and expert alike.

It begins with a general introduction to motor types and starting methods before going on to explain how the use of a soft starter to provide a gradual, controlled increase of voltage - and hence a smooth increase in motor speed - can reduce mechanical stress on couplings, gearboxes and bearings and improve motor life.

The handbook provides advice on how to select the right soft starter for specific applications and ensure they are correctly adjusted and concludes with a useful glossary of terms.

The soft starter handbook can be downloaded free of charge from the ABB website.
