The established System proM S280 range of MCBs has been further extended to include universal current versions with a choice of either K or Z tripping characteristics.

ABB's well established System proM S280 range of MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) has been further extended to include UC (universal current) versions with a choice of either K or Z tripping characteristics A permanent magnet which assists in the forced extinguishing of the arc enables the S280UC MCBs to combine all the operating properties of a standard AC breaker up to 440V with exceptional DC performance

Compared with the 60V DC per pole typical for most MCBs the S280UC offers up to 220V DC for single pole or up to 440V DC for double pole with series connection of two poles.

The S280UCK MCBs feature the K tripping characteristic which is the optimal solution for the safe protection of motors, transformers, lamps and cable.

The S280UCZ MCBs feature ABB's unique Z tripping characteristic developed for the protection of semiconductor devices and voltage transformer circuits.

The S280UCZ offers an ideal replacement for semiconductor fuses and facilitates a fast setup time for new machinery and rapid fault finding.

As fuses are frequently the first thing to fail when equipment goes on test, substitution of an MCB for an expensive and often hard to source semiconductor fuse can pay for itself the first time the fuse blows.

The S280UC MCBs are available in both single pole (17.5mm wide) and double pole (35mm wide) versions for current ratings between 0.5 and 63A, with a breaking capacity of 6kA up to 32A and 4.5kA between 40 and 63A.

They can simply be mounted on standard top-hat DIN rail.

In common with the other MCBs in ABB's S260 and S270 ranges, the extended S280UC series can be coupled with the same shared series of auxiliary elements and accessories to provide a variety of functions and configurations.

These typically include: auxiliary contacts, signal contacts, shunt trips and undervoltage releases etc.
