AB Connectors has designed and manufactured a new distribution box that makes it easier for armed forces' personnel to connect power from military vehicles to kitchens in the field.
AB Connectors has designed and manufactured a new distribution box that enables armed forces' personnel to connect power from military vehicles to kitchens in the field easier and quicker, following a contract from G3 systems to upgrade the specialist equipment.
The MoD spends GBP 140 million a year on food and feeds 96,000 personnel each day in more than 1000 kitchens in Britain and abroad.
Providing power to field based kitchens is an essential part of the drive to ensure that UK servicemen have access to the best possible cooking facilities at all times.
AB's specially designed distribution box enables power to be provided from military vehicles or generators, ensuring power is available anywhere, anytime.
G3 Systems, the integration authority for a new generation of field catering systems, has worked closely with AB Connectors over the last few months regarding the design and build of the box.
David Lovelock, Programme Manager, G3 Systems, comments: "Our design requirements were very specific and it was vital to have the responsive support of AB, especially during the initial stages.
Power distribution is a vital part of the system and we are delighted that AB is producing a product that we believe will prove extremely durable and reliable under harsh field conditions".
Designed to operate in the toughest conditions, the ruggedised power distribution box has been adapted with specialist connectors and a safety current device.
The circuit breaker has had protective housing built around it to prevent the box being disabled in the field and it has been designed to IP67 standards to withstand immersion in water.
