Cost saving pumping solutions and environmental issues featured in "ABS Partners" magazine.

The latest issue of the ABS Partners magazine looks at cost saving pumping solutions that ABS, the leading pump manufacturer, has provided for both municipal and commercial applications.

On a more global scale, a feature article focuses on the wider issue of the environment, and the disturbing statistic that over a third of the world's population has no access to satisfactory wastewater treatment.

It is shocking, but hardly surprising, that estimates put the percentage of fatal diseases in the developing world attributable to the consumption of polluted water as high as 80%.

With much more awareness being directed towards environmental responsibilities, ABS Partners gives details of how ABS equipment has helped the province of Modena in Italy to ensure its treatment of wastewater and sewage does not compromise the delicate natural ecological balance of the region.

Further afield, ABS has been involved in a major project in Henan province in eastern China, helping the heavily industrialised city of Pingdingshan to clean up its act.

With ABS pump systems forming an integral element, the city's water treatment facilities have been upgraded to a daily capacity of 150,000 sq.m - an increase of 500%.

Not only will this vastly improve living conditions for the 440,000 population, it also gives scope for further economic development without additional pressure on the environment.

Recycling is a key issue in today's industrial world.

ABS has been working closely with two organisations from different sides of the globe involved in the recycled paper business.

Commercial paper recycling, though representing a major saving to natural resources such as forests, is a messy process resulting in significant amounts of chemically charged effluent.

ABS has installed more than 180 process pumps for what has been labelled "The most modern and innovative paper machine in the world" at Haindl Papier's paper mill in Augsberg, Germany.

In Taiwan, ABS aerators have been so effective in removing the need to chemically treat Kuan Yuan Paper's effluent that the company's vice president has proudly stated "The wastewater from the effluent plant is clean enough to raise carp!" Other articles give details of how the city of Prague's Sewage Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to save some 360,000 euros annually after installing low energy consumption ABS agitators, as well as details of other ABS products meeting the needs of global customers from the Galapagos Islands to Ireland.
