Flow meters monitor fuel consumption
The AGMPL ASFC250G computerised specific fuel consumption measurement system consists of two volumetric flow meters.
About 80% of the operating costs of a diesel engine are fuel costs Efficient operation of an engine is, therefore, crucial

An apparently simple application to develop a control system for railway distributor valves turned out to be quite complex for AG Measurematics
The AGMPL ASFC250G computerised specific fuel consumption measurement system provides accuracy in real time.
Essentially the system consists of two volumetric flow-meters - one measuring the fuel quantity going into the engine and the other measuring the fuel quantity in the return line.
These flow meters follow the changing velocities of fuel flow under different load conditions at different notches.
The electronics hardware of the system measures the traction generator output voltage, traction generator load current, ambient temperature and the pulses from both the flow meters.
These measured values, along with the user-programmed values of generator efficiency, auxiliary horsepower, fuel density and altitude, are used to process the data in real time.
Loco-sheds are already equipped with a computerised load box and additional hardware is only required for pulse rates from the two flow meters.
Preparing the locomotive parked at the load box shed for SFC measurement takes less than thirty minutes, thanks to the appropriately sized adapters and other fitting accessories supplied with the system.
