CMM manufacturer does well in Russia

An Aberlink product story

A Russian tool company has purchased two Aberlink Axiom Too manual CMMs for quality control.

The fragmentation of the old Soviet Union has presented many enterprising western companies with excellent commercial opportunities.

Typical of the very profitable business that can be generated by businesspeople willing to blaze the trail to member countries of the Federation of Russian Republics, is the recent experience of Gavin Bailey, joint owner of Aberlink, the largest UK owned coordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufacturer.

Bailey recently endured temperatures of between -25C and -27C and deep snow drifts, whilst visiting the JSC Sterlitamak MTE Company, in Sterlitamak, Bashkortostan, to oversee the installation of two Aberlink Axiom Too manual CMMs.

With Ufa as the capital, Sterlitamak is Bashkortostan's second city and is located some two hours flying time east of Moscow.

Now employing 1500 people manufacturing a wide range of high-quality m/c tools, JSC Sterlitamak MTE enjoyed a rich history under the communist Soviet Union regime.

Previously called the Lenin Machine Tool Enterprise, the company was moved from Odessa in the south to Sterlitamak in 1941, to ensure continuity of production during the second World War.

At its peek JSC Sterlitamak MTE employed over 5000 people.

Having purchased the two Aberlink CMMs for its own quality control requirements, JSC Sterlitamak MTE are now evaluating the machines as part of a collaboration agreement, whereby they will also offer Aberlink Axiom Too CMMs to their many machine tool customers.

With a reputation for ease of use and robust construction, Aberlink offer an extremely comprehensive range of CMMs in terms of size and accuracy, at a price that the Russian market can afford.

As The Federation of Russian Republics has a huge manufacturing base that is under-developed, in terms of quality control equipment, specifically CMMs, JSC Sterlitamak MTE are confidant of selling more than 100 Aberlink CMMs per year.

Aberlink are now busy translating all of their manuals into Russian and working hard at ensuring their new commercial links become profitable to both parties.
