The benefits of high-efficiency machining has been recognised by subcontract machine shop, Noltemeyer, based in Barrsinghausen near Hanover in Germany, with the installation of an AB Marwin PowerCentre HPF horizontal machining centre In response to a rapid increase in customer demand Noltemeyer scoured Spain, Italy and the UK for a machine that could not only significantly increase productivity but one that could be built to specification and delivered in a short time frame

The AB Marwin PowerCentre HPF horizontal machining centre was the obvious choice for Noltemeyer as it offered high-speed and cost-effective machining alongside an excellent service package, the highest standards of build and could be delivered within the desired time constraints.

The PowerCentre HPF delivered to Noltemeyer has a bed length 12m and has x-axis travel of 10,000mm, y-axis of 2500mm and z-axis of 1250 mm with feed and rapid traverse rates of 20,000mm/min while all axis incorporate linear scale feedback for optimum accuracy.

The 60-station auto tool changer and 45-degree auto indexing head with 2.5-degree indexing, gives the customer the option to change tools in both the horizontal and vertical plane which significantly reduces cycle time as it eliminates the necessity of indexing the head.

A Heidenhain TNC 430M CNC control utilises all digital drives and motors and the machine offers swarf and coolant management with the added protection of the full work area being surrounded by an interlocked guarding system.

The machine is configured in two work zones with a movable centre guard offering full flexibility and the added advantage of pendulum loading which increases the spindle operating time when two parts are loaded to the work table.

The control software also offers the ability to utilise the whole x- axis travel for long parts.

Sean Gwynne of AB Marwin comments: "AB Marwin offers a comprehensive initial training programme which is followed with continued applications support.

We always offer our customers help in developing their programmes and, frequently, our applications engineers offer additional knowledge and experience which results in the customer quickly and easily improving production techniques".

Don McBean, General Sales Manager, AB Marwin comments on the sale: "Noltemeyer is a small and independent family-run company which has been in operation for three generations.

The PowerCentre is a significant investment for the company and this is a reflection of its confidence in the AB Marwin product".

Peter Purdom, Managing Director of AB Marwin, comments: "We are with our customers from beginning to end.

We have highly skilled applications engineers who come to a project with no preconceived ideas - and this means approaching projects with new ways of thinking.

On numerous occasions we have improved our customers' productivity ten-fold - improving customers' productivity is our business, it's why we are here".

The PowerCentre commenced production at Noltemeyer in February 2002.
