Bar code validation is an increasingly important process and, thanks to a new development from Accu-Sort, one which can now be performed simply and reliably by an off-the-shelf automatic validation system.

The new Validscan can be based on any scanner from the Accu-Sort range to meet the performance requirements of the application, from 300-1,200 scans per second.

Typically, twelve bar codes can be validated per second ensuring that 100% of product coding is correct for the production or packaging operation.

A standard system comprises a high-speed scanner and an intelligent control terminal providing user interface, keypad and display.

Validscan reads all retail and pharmaceutical codes and is designed to ensure correct matching of product, packaging and literature, code integrity and code printing within specification.

Once the pre-set code quality threshold is crossed, Validscan will alert an operator or stop the line, ensuring that all coded products leaving a customer's plant comply with the latest scanning technology employed by major distribution centres and retailers.

A typical installation requires a single scanner per Validscan point, however a single controller can support many scanners.

This is particularly advantageous in certain applications, for example scanning a code on a can regardless of its orientation or position on the line.

A Validscan configuration of four scanners can be used to provide a full 360 degree field of view.

Whilst most applications will be satisfied with Accu-Sort's Model 10, Validscan can also be configured for more demanding applications using Accu-Sort's DRX tm patented data reconstruction and decoding software.

Compact and easily integrated with existing equipment, Validscan uses Microsoft Excel for easy statistical reporting.

Intelligent and dynamic on-line programming of the scanner is accomplished at the Validscan controller, allowing the scanner to be re-configured automatically for line or product changes, as often as required.

Developed in conjunction with EDS, Validscan is a highly cost efficient way of eliminating returns and associated fines.
