In creating a separate business unit dedicated to RFID and auto ID, Accu-Sort is gathering experts from across the company to focus on research and development.

The team is also deploying specialised equipment to help customers meet compliance mandates, including a high-speed loop for advanced research.

The high-speed conveyor, outfitted with the latest Accu-Sort cameras, lasers and antennas, will enable Accu-Sort to replicate for customers real-world conditions in the centre.

The RFID design centre will enable us to produce new products faster", said Steve Kowalke, RFID Business Unit Manager.

"All of our new products are focused on meeting customer needs, and all of them are focused on auto ID".

"We live and breathe this stuff".

The centre will be staffed with employees from R and D, application engineering and marketing.

It will leverage the expertise of researchers from Camera and Laser divisions, among others.

It will also build a critical mass of expertise within R and D.

"The centre will give us the focus and energy of a startup, while leveraging the field force and our manufacturing expertise", Joyce said, noting that parent company Danaher Corporation has increased its RFID funding at Accu-Sort by 500% in 2004.

"We expect it will accelerate our growth through faster new product development".
