The Axiom 1L single-laser scanner has been selected as a finalist for Plant Engineering's product of the year

The Axiom 1L is a versatile single-laser scanner that offers a large depth of field along with high-speed scanning at up to 1,400 scans per second to ensure the highest possible read rates on both good and poor-quality codes. The unit is housed in a rugged IP65-rated industrial enclosure that allows it to withstand harsh environments.

Since the Axiom 1L was selected as a finalist for Plant Engineering's product of the year, Accu-Sort has added several new software features to the entire Axiom line, including one that gives users the ability to control the laser with a photoeye or tachometer.

Each November, a panel of judges reviews every entry and scores each product based on its usefulness in plant engineering work, innovation, problem-solving and broad industrial application.

Readers then choose a winner from a list of 150 finalists.

Awards will be given in early 2006.

The Axiom 1L is entered in the material handling category.

'We are honoured to have the Axiom 1L recognised by Plant Engineering as a finalist for the product of the year', said Mike Bosha, Product Manager with Accu-Sort.

'We believe that the features of the Axiom 1L make it an innovative and easy to use product that solves all bar code reading applications in the material handling world'.

'Being chosen by those who actually use the product is a great accomplishment'.

Bosha said customers will find the entire Axiom line has an easier set up and a longer life, thanks to several new software features that enhance the system's capability.

The laser can now be controlled by a photoeye or tachometer and will shut off automatically when the Axiom is not in use, increasing the scanner's mean time between failures.

The Axiom can also learn a match code via relay input or by a button on the Axiom control panel.

Those enhancements make the Axiom 1L even more attractive to customers who need dependable equipment, Bosha said.

'The Axiom 1L is extremely fast, reliable and rugged'.

'It was expressly developed for use in manufacturing and automotive applications where speed, accuracy, ruggedness, ease of installation and connectivity are critical factors'.

The Axiom 1L also provides flexible connectivity.

It offers several options for bar code data transfer to existing systems, including UDP messaging, EtherNet/IP and operation as an Ethernet TCP/IP client or server.

These protocols are standard on all Axiom Products.

EtherNet/IP offers direct connection to Rockwell Automation's control architecture without the need for a costly external protocol converter.

Installation of the unit is simplified through the use of a modular scan head and wiring base.

This, along with the parameter storage module, allows for fast and simple installation and replacement'.

'Just replace the scan head on the wiring base, push a button on the Axiom 1L and the parameters are automatically downloaded', Bosha said.

'You are ready to read in a matter of minutes'.

The Axiom 1L is bundled with Axcess software, which provides a simple way to configure and monitor Axiom readers from anywhere in the facility.

The Axiom 1L complements the rest of the Axiom product line, which includes the Axiom 4L, the Axiom 2L and the Axiom 2L Enhanced.
