Giant performance leap for shock absorbers

Compared to standard shock absorbers, the effective weight range of the new Ace models is nearly 10 times greater and their energy capacity capability has increased by some 200%

It was only 18 months ago when automation control equipment manufacturer Ace Controls International announced their Magnum Series of shock absorbers.

Magnum units were at that time, a major advance in shock absorber design with remarkable improvements in energy capacity and effective weights.

Internally the inner and metering tube diameters were increased to provide a greater piston area.

Externally, a fully threaded body, integral stop collar and front or rear unit adjustment were new.

Now, however, this outstanding performance improvement has been surpassed with Ace's new SC2 300 and 650 Heavyweight 11 Series of self-compensating shock absorbers.

Compared to standard models the effective weight range of these new models is nearly 10 times greater and their energy capacity capability has increased by some 200%.

All of this has been achieved by the Ace design team combining the piston and the inner tube into a single component that acts as both a pressure creating and pressure controlling device.

The basic principle that the Ace design team are working with is that shock absorber performance within a comparable body shell is directly related to piston area.

These new units have a piston area some 250% greater than previous models.

Size for size these new units give design engineers many more opportunities in shock absorber application, especially in those instances where size of unit is critical.

Possible applications include: pick and place operations, rotary actuators and many areas of automation.

The SC 300 (-5,6,7) models can handle effective weights from 11 to181kg with an energy capacity of 73Nm per cycle.

The SC 650 (5,6,7) models can handle effective weights from 23 to 1089kg with an energy capacity of 210Nm per cycle.
