Dampers keep cable cars on the level

An Ace Controls International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 7, 2006

Hydraulic dampers have found an unusual application in providing a smooth ride for cable car passengers.

Hydraulic dampers from automation control equipment manufacturer Ace Controls International are normally used on machine guards and lids, fire safety flaps and smoke and roof vents.

One unusual application where their performance, maintenance-free design and temperature range (-20 to +80C) are proving invaluable is on a cable car.

The damper provides a smoother ride for cable car passengers particularly when leaving or docking car stations.

In this application, model HB-40-300 is being used, offering a stroke length of 300mm and a maximum compression force of 10,000N.

Five models now complete the lineup: the HB-15, 22, 28, 40 and 70.

Stroke lengths range from 25mm all the way up to 800mm.

All Ace hydraulic dampers are self-contained units.

They provide a fully adjustable controlled feed rate when a load is applied to them.

They can be specified to control the velocity for either the out stroke, in stroke or in both directions.
