Servo motors offer excellent dynamic response

Both the standard size MCS and compact MUS ranges are available with current ratings to match the PositionServo drive range and output ratings to suit a wide variety of applications.

Lenze-ACTech has released two ranges of high-performance servomotors to accompany its PositionServo range of drives.

The standard size MCS range and the compact MUS range both offer high torque performance and excellent dynamic response while remaining competitively priced.

The recently launched Lenze PositionServo drive is a flexible unit that is easy to set up and can be used to control most servomotors, however peace of mind can always be improved by offering machine builders, OEMs and maintenance service companies a guaranteed motor/drive package from one supplier.

Both the standard size MCS and compact MUS ranges are available with current ratings to match the PositionServo drive range and output ratings to suit a wide variety of applications.

Both designs are also highly energy efficient, meeting EFF class 1 requirements, and in some instances going well beyond the requirements with extremely low motor losses and correspondingly low running costs.

This can translate into a saving of up to 40% when compared with some conventional AC motor alternatives.

Standard sized MCS motors offer a torque range from 0.5 to 51Nm and peak torques of up to 191Nm.

High-quality magnetic materials and specially formed motor poles significantly improve power density, reducing the moment of inertia within the motor and improving response times and increasing operating efficiency.

The robust mechanical design also incorporates a re-inforced bearing system and a high level of ingress protection to ensure operational reliability under high loads and harsh operating conditions.

Instead of undergoing a simple varnishing process, the stator of an MCS synchronous servomotor is fully-encapsulated along with all its windings.

This brings advantages in terms of vibration resistance, greater protection against corrosion and improved heat loss.

Encapsulation improves motor endurance as it is better able to withstand vibration without suffering wear, which eliminates the risk of a winding failure.

Moreover, unlike exposed windings, the stator winding is protected against humidity and some corrosive atmospheres.

The result is higher power density and greater overload capacity.

The second type of Lenze servomotor to be introduced is the compact MUS range of motors.

These units offer all the performance benefits of the MCS range, but are packaged in a highly compact envelope.

There are four standard square frame sizes; 58, 82, 105 and 142mm.

All have motor sections reaching between just 82 and 207mm in length, depending on the corresponding torque rating.

Continuous stall torque ratings vary from the smaller units at 0.48 to 25Nm.

Both ranges of servomotors feature high-integrity shaft sealing and are totally enclosed designs once fitted, offering overall IP65 ingress protection.

The MUS compact range also includes an integral resolver for position feedback and a built in temperature sensor mounted in the motor winding providing automatic protection from overloading or damage caused by unusually high peak temperatures.

A range of encoder systems is available.

Other options include a phase angle sensor and tacho generator and frame matched motor holding brakes, including permanent magnet holding brakes for use in conjunction with a 24V DC synchronous servomotors and for use with 205V DC asynchronous models.

System-optimised power supply leads, encoder cables and fan connection cables are also available for all Lenze motors to enable quick and easy connection.
