A new 2.2mm wide tooling system for face grooving at diameters down to 14mm and depths of 10mm has been developed by Advanced Carbide Tooling.

The system initially includes 20 different standard versions, available off-the-shelf, for left or right hand turning on diameters from 14 to 100mm.

Toolholders consist of 20 x 20mm square section shanks with integral insert support blades.

They are machined from solid high alloy steel and heat-treated to Rockwell 50C hardness to produce exceptionally high strength and rigidity.

Inserts are held positively in position by a flush-fitting spring-loaded mechanical top clamp which also provides good access for lubricant and assists swarf removal.

The new NDC inserts developed for the ACT2.2 face-grooving system have a 10-degree positive top rake geometry which reduces the width of the swarf to ensure it exits freely from the groove.

The choice available includes an advanced sub-micron grade in coated and uncoated versions for machining particularly difficult materials.
