Thais take to tube labelling
Advanced Labelling Systems has supplied three ALS T-Series tube labellers to tube manufacturer Grandplast in Thailand.
Advanced Labelling Systems has supplied three ALS T-Series tube labellers to tube manufacturer Grandplast in Thailand.
The order from Thailand is evidence of an ongoing industry trend towards labelling tubes as opposed to using predecorated tubes; a trend that has been evident since the arrival of bespoke tube labelling machines.
"Prior to machines like the ALS T-Series, companies were labelling using heads installed on a printing or capping machine, or using direct printing techniques such as offset silkscreen, litho or hot stamping", said Phil Donaldson, Sales and Marketing Director at ALS.
"All of these techniques of decorating, however, are limited.
For example, while the dry-offset printing technique provides extremely good definition, it doesn't lay down a lot of ink and doesn't cover dark substrates very effectively.
The techniques of decorating a label, on the other hand, are unlimited and offer a greater degree of definition - improving the overall quality of the packaging and reinforcing the brand's image".
Grandplast is a large company with high-profile clients; global brands that expect the quality of their packaging to reflect the high quality of their products.
The company not only felt confident that the ALS T-Series could meet the demands of the operation cost-effectively, but it was also attracted by ALS's registration option.
At any time, the ALS T-Series can be fitted with a product registration system that allows labels to be applied in alignment with a weld seam down the tube or with the closure.
The ALS T-Series offers manufacturers like Grandplast a wide range of benefits that can help improve efficiency and raise productivity levels.
For example, the ALS T-Series features change-parts that can be easily swapped by non-technical operators - without tools - in less than 2min.
This makes for easy product changeover, while allowing for trials and short runs to take place.
The ALS T-Series also offers ease of operation.
The labeller is controlled by a PLC with operator interface via an easy-to-use, push button and dial switch panel, allowing machine and drum speeds, conveyor on/off and single cycle functions to be set without difficulty.
In addition to offering manufacturers flexibility and ease of operation, the ALS T-Series is easy to maintain and represents excellent value for money; being approximately half the price of competing tube labelling machines.
This, combined with the fact that ALS is one of the few manufacturers that will install labelling machinery anywhere in the world, reinforced its suitability for Grandplast in Thailand.
"The inherent advantages of labelling, such as flexibility and outstanding print quality, combined with cost-effective labelling systems like the ALS T-Series ensures that tube manufacturers such as Grandplast are able to operate more effectively in what is an increasingly competitive market", said Donaldson.
