The brand new version 9.0 of Tecplot, the flagship technical plotting software package from Amtec Engineering, is now available in the UK from Adept Scientific plc.
OpenGL has been implemented in Tecplot 9.0 to take advantage of the fast and affordable graphics cards available in today's PCs and UNIX workstations.
Tecplot 9.0 can be used to interactively visualise, explore, analyse, and virtually fly through large 2-D and 3-D data sets consisting of millions of data points.
Tecplot 9.0 boasts impressive new features, including a new interactive 3-D slicing tool and iso-surface exploration tools, which can be used to quickly explore 3-D data sets to understand the variations of the field variables, uncover hidden anomalies, and visually analyse your data.
Tecplot 9.0 also renders 3-D data up to 100 times faster than version 8.0, allowing users to view and make plots with very large data sets and to fully rotate fully rendered objects.
The new true colour and translucency in Tecplot 9.0 make for more impressive plots, animations, and presentations.
Tecplot can load and plot data organised in a variety of grid structures that are used in computer programmes to simulate physics, such as fluid dynamics, electromagnetics and heat transfer.
Data points can be arranged in multiple blocks of rectangular and body-fitted curvilinear grids, unstructured finite-element grids made of triangles, quadrilaterals, prisms and bricks.
Tecplot can also interpolate random or irregular data into grid structures and even triangulate the data points.
Release of Tecplot 9.0 is part of Amtec's strategy to build a versatile plotting and data analysis software programme that combines general technical plotting and high-end 3-D scientific data visualisation into one programme, and that has high-quality on-screen graphics and presentation-quality output.
Engineers and scientists working with large data sets like those created with numerical simulation software (e.g fluid dynamics and geophysics), as well as data from analysis and testing, who are looking for a single "one-stop shop" for data visualisation software will benefit from Tecplot 9.0.
