New bibliographic software easier to use than ever
New EndNote 5 offers a new level of integration with Microsoft Word, adding 'Cite While You Write' technology to locate citations and instantly format bibliographies
Adept Scientific announces the release of a major new upgrade to EndNote, the world's most popular bibliographic software from ISI ResearchSoft.
EndNote is used by authors, researchers, students and librarians to search Internet libraries for relevant literature references, organise databases of references and produce bibliographies.
New EndNote 5 offers a new level of integration with Microsoft Word, adding 'Cite While You Write' technology to locate citations and instantly format bibliographies.
A 'travelling' reference library makes collaboration between colleagues as simple as sharing a Microsoft Word document.
These new tools, along with a built-in, multi-language spell checker, a direct link to the ISI Web of Science and over 700 journal output styles, make EndNote 5 a significant advance on previous versions.
"EndNote 5 is truly ground breaking.
For the first time, users can watch the bibliography appear before their eyes as they write," said David Kochalko, President of ISI ResearchSoft (part of the Thomson Corporation).
"In addition, the new travelling library frees researchers from having to exchange EndNote databases along with their manuscripts.
Whether colleagues are down the corridor or across the globe, EndNote 5 is the perfect collaborative writing tool." Paul Bragg, Managing Director of Adept Scientific which supplies and supports ISI ResearchSoft products in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Denmark, added: "This new release of EndNote offers enhancements that really do make life easier for anyone who writes papers, books, dissertations and theses.
A tool that creates a properly formatted bibliography as you write, without any additional user interaction, is a real benefit - and automatically attaching full reference data to the document eliminates one of the major problems of joint authorship.
I wish it had been around when I was doing my PhD!" EndNote 5's new 'Cite While You Write' feature lets users focus on writing their paper, letting EndNote locate and insert citations as well as produce bibliographies.
EndNote 5's new instant formatting delivers a finished bibliography as users cite references in the document, further streamlining the writing process.
If the word processor used is Microsoft Word, EndNote 5 also automatically creates a 'hidden' library of the citations used that is attached to the document.
Sharing documents for collaborative writing is therefore made much easier, as whoever receives the document will also get complete reference data for all citations, which they can add to, delete, edit and reformat as necessary.
ISI Web of Science users can now - at no additional charge - take advantage of a simple two-way connection between the ISI Web of Science and EndNote 5.
Researchers can search the ISI Web of Science from EndNote 5 and drag and drop selected references to an EndNote library.
EndNote 5 also maintains a link to the original reference in the ISI Web of Science.
Users can even access the full text of references and link to other scholarly databases through ISI Links-.
EndNote 5 automates spelling and typing corrections with a new Spell Checker that lets users check highlighted text or an entire reference for spelling errors.
The new spell checker includes multi-language and discipline-specific dictionaries for greater accuracy.
The addition of new output styles to format bibliographies brings the total to over 700.
Output styles enable bibliographies to be formatted automatically to meet the style specifications of specific publications; users can modify or create their own output styles too.
EndNote's availability on both Macintosh and Windows, as well as the cross-platform database compatibility, make it the ideal choice for mixed-platform environments.
