Free software for teaching undergraduate physics
The Physics Education PowerTools Set is a collection of three free undergraduate courses developed in Maple 7 and including Classical Mechanics, Differential Equations and Complex Analysis
Adept Scientific plc announces the release of the Physics Education PowerTools Set, a collection of three undergraduate courses developed in Maple 7 from Waterloo Maple, a world leader in mathematical software for education, research and industry.
The Physics PowerTools Set includes curriculum materials in Classical Mechanics, Differential Equations and Complex Analysis.
These course materials are available for free through the Maple Application Center at http://powertools.adeptscience.co.uk Both conceptually and mathematically, physics is arguably the most demanding of all the sciences in undergraduate education.
The new PowerTools, developed by university professors, are intended to provide physics and maths lecturers with in-class demonstrations and labs in which students can work through subject material on their own.
Each lesson uses Maple to develop the theory behind the topic and provides numerous worked examples.
Principles are illustrated with Maple's interactive 2-D and 3-D graphics, including animations, free-body diagrams, ODE plots, contour plots and conformal mappings.
"By working with experts in the fields of classical mechanics, differential equations and complex analysis, Waterloo Maple helps to ensure that each of the PowerTools are of exceptional quality and value," states Dr.Jason Schattman, Manager, Applications Marketing, at Waterloo Maple.
With the addition of the Physics PowerTools Set, the total number of PowerTools rises to 19.
All can be previewed and downloaded for free from the Maple Application Center (http://powertools.adeptscience.co.uk).
The Maple Application Center at http://mapleapps.adeptscience.co.uk also offers hundreds of other smaller applications covering a wide spectrum of technical areas, including abstract algebra, fluid dynamics, astrophysics and economics.
