Big improvements to maths and engineering software

An Adept Scientific product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 19, 2001

New Mathcad 2001i delivers full support for Windows XP, improvements in usability, more data acquisition choices, enhanced security, streamlined web publishing, and expanded problem solving functions

Adept Scientific has announced Mathcad 2001i, an enhanced version of the industry-standard solution for performing and documenting technical calculations, from MathSoft, the provider of interactive maths, science, engineering and educational software, content and Web services.

New and enhanced features improve how users create, communicate and collaborate on engineering documents and designs.

Mathcad 2001i also delivers full support for Windows XP, improvements in usability, more data acquisition choices, enhanced security with the introduction of advanced encrypted security to protect Mathcad documents, streamlined web publishing, expanded problem solving functions and a broader range of customisation options.

Through its patented technology and suse of real maths notation, Mathcad offers unmatched simplicity for performing even the most complex calculations and designs.

Mathcad's unique graphical interface and self-documenting environment enable users to calculate, model, illustrate and present their work in one integrated environment, making it the ideal tool for managing, documenting and communicating technical work.

Last year, Mathcad was the first technical calculation package to fully support both the presentation and content forms of MathML (an XML standard for publishing maths on the Web approved by the World Wide Web Consortium), making it possible for users to create and publish interactive maths expressions on the Internet.

MathSoft has enhanced Mathcad 2001i with the following new features: MathSoft has added advanced file-encryption functionality to keep document contents safe until they arrive in the hands of the intended user.

In addition, newly integrated document-protection technology lets users lock all regions of Mathcad designs and calculations, making it possible to share results without revealing proprietary processes.

Mathcad 2001i also features new security settings to help protect against embedded scripts that could potentially harm users' computer systems.

Mathcad 2001i adds support for data acquisition from Measurement Computing (formerly ComputerBoards) analogue DAQ boards and offers improved integration with National Instruments devices.

Mathcad 2001i adds many valuable usability enhancements, including new 2-D grid colour options, 3-D axis labels, multi-region property settings and current-page printing.

Mathcad 2001i builds on the bidirectional MathML support introduced in Mathcad 2001 by adding new support for inline data, improved graphics and easier Web publishing with the addition of Web templates.

As a result, applying and communicating maths on the Web becomes seamless for Mathcad users.

Mathcad 2001i features a new Radau ODE solver that offers faster, more accurate calculations.

Enhanced ODE solve blocks now support systems of differential equations and differential algebraic equations, while nested solve blocks support more complex optimisation problems.

Mathcad 2001i offers enhanced automation interfaces for using Mathcad in embedded applications.

New interfaces to the Mathcad application, worksheets, windows and regions provide a broader range of options for customising Mathcad to perform routine or frequent tasks.

MathSoft continues to adapt its products for use with the most current Windows operating systems.

Mathcad 2001i is now specifically designed for Windows XP compatibility, and also supports Windows 98, Me, NT and 2000.

As always, Mathcad 2001i is available in either Professional or Premium editions.

For power users, Mathcad 2001i Premium Edition provides a complete, integrated technical-design environment for engineers to perform, communicate and document their design process.

It includes all the feature improvements in Mathcad 2001i Professional, as well as full versions of SmartSketch 4, the new version of Intergraph's easy-to-use design, drafting and diagramming application, and Axum 7, the soon-to-be-released version of the premier technical charting package for analysing, exploring and presenting data, and new VisSim Plus.

VisSim Plus is an edition of Visual Solution's Windows-based program for the modelling and simulation of complex dynamic systems, with the added ability to perform frequency domain analyses of VisSim models or subsystems to help determine system stability.
