Reference software supports work on the move

An Adept Scientific product story

Users are able to search ISI Web of Knowledge, PubMed and hundreds of online library databases, then import and edit references in a personal web account.

Adept Scientific has released EndNote Web from Thomson Reuters.

EndNote Web's is designed primarily to help undergraduates capture, organise and cite the references they find during their studies.

It also provides a useful storage stop-gap for EndNote desktop users on the move.

Users are able to search ISI Web of Knowledge, PubMed and hundreds of online library databases, then import and edit references in a personal web account.

"EndNote Web helps a new segment of users streamline citing references and formatting bibliographies and also provides EndNote desktop users with an online storage option for times when they are away from their desks", said David Kochalko, Vice President Business Development, Thomson Reuters.

EndNote Web puts minimal strain on university or college IT resources because, as a web-based research solution, individual user accounts are held on the Thomson Reuters server.

So when updates are released, they go live immediately and are automatically available when users log in to their accounts, with no IT intervention required.

February 2008 saw the release of EndNote Web 2.1, introducing new customisation facilities that enable site contacts to define the import filters, connection files and output styles available to all users onsite through EndNote Web.

This is useful for those sites wishing to set their own standard bibliographic formats or remove connection files that are less important (and potentially confusing) to their members.

Site-wide installation of the EndNote Web toolbars was also simplified.

In April 2008 EndNote Web 2.2 went live with expanded reference sharing for groups, links to the full-text documents for ISI Web of Knowledge records, plus other enhancements to streamline and improve the quality of online research.

EndNote Web is available free-of-charge to any academic institution with a subscription to an EndNote desktop site licence or ISI Web of Knowledge.

It is also available as a stand-alone agreement.
