VLX2 line lights speed line-scan acquisition

An Adept Electronic Solutions product story

The Gardasoft VLX2 ultra-high-sensitivity, liquid-cooled LED line lights from Adept Electronic Solutions provide an alternative to fibre-optic-based systems.

There are no expensive bulbs to change, saving money and reducing process down-time.

In addition, the colour of the LEDs will remain more constant than with filament or discharge bulbs.

Gardasoft VLX2 water-cooled line lights give bright, uniform lighting focused to a narrow beam.

The limiting factor in many line-scan systems is the intensity of the line light being used.

However, using the VLX2 lighting system, the line-scan acquisition can run many times faster than with conventional air-cooled LED lights, thereby allowing higher production speeds and/or higher-resolution images.

Water cooling allows the VLX2 lights to run much more brightly while still maintaining the lifetime of the LEDs in excess of 50 000 hours for all environmental conditions.

Manufacturing emphasis has been placed on intensity and thermal management to ensure efficient, reliable and consistent operation and fast 'warm up' time.

To prevent damage, the units will automatically switch off in the event of a cooling failure.

Water cooling is commonly used in industrial applications and is simple to implement.

All that is required is a cooler, flexible plastic pipework and self-sealing pipe connectors, all of which Gardasoft can supply.

Existing on-site cooled water can also be used.

Incorporating the Vcubed smart design concept (SDC), the VLX2 series eliminates external controllers and integrates efficient liquid-cooling, current control and communications in a slim-line form factor to deliver a combination of high light output, reliability and control.

With core capabilities of integrated current control; strobe timing control; comprehensive communications and control management; LED failure detection and thermal management; SDC enables the development of LED lighting solutions that were impossible with contemporary systems, according to Adept.

The light output from the units can be varied over a wide range and is either preset or controlled via a communication interface.

The system temperature and individual LED device failure detection can be monitored.

Lighting profile control and ultra-high light output enables much higher camera line rates and better source imagery.

The VLX2 series brings benefits to a range of manufacturing processes, including web inspection, glass and metal sheet, road surfaces and PCBs.

Other applications include: pharmaceutical quality control; film/foil inspection; rail inspection; food industry; printing, paper and plastics inspection; traffic-based solutions.
