Now available in the UK from Audon Electronics is the LabJack U12 USB data acquisition and control unit.
The LabJack U12 has a +/-10V input range at 12bit resolution.
Differential channels can make use of the low noise precision amplifier with gains of up to 20, giving an input range down to +/-1V.
Data can be streamed to disk at 1kHz and a bursts mode allows over 4000 samples to be taken at a 8kHz rate.
The two 0-10V analogue output channels can be updated at a 50Hz rate with 10bit resolution.
Each of the LabJack's 20 digital I/O channels can be individually configured as input or output.
There is also one 32bit counter available on the LabJack U12, capable of counting frequencies up to 1MHz.
The LabJack U12 also has a watchdog timer function available which can change the states of digital I/O if the LabJack does not successfully communicate with the PC within a specified time-out period.
This function could be used to reboot the PC allowing for reliable unattended operation - all this from a simple plug-and-play USB device.
The OEM version consists of a populated circuit board with the usual screw terminals replaced with DIL headers.
It does not come with an enclosure, USB cable or a software CD.
However, all software and a dimensional drawing are available from Audon's website.
The OEM version is ideal for users who wish to add the U12's functionality to their own equipment or have an extremely cost-sensitive application in mind.
Software support for the U12 is very extensive.
There is an easy-to-use DLL and ActiveX and LabView VIs.
There are also freely available examples in Visual Basic, C++, Borland C, PowerBasic, MatLab, Delphi, LabView, TestPoint, VEE, DAQFactory, LabWindows, Perl, Java, DasyLab and even Excel.
There is also driver information for Linux and Apple Mac users.
