However, the rapid growth of small computer systems and mobile telecommunication equipment has caused manufacturers to move their resources into these new high volume areas and away from slower moving, older style product ranges.
The result is that many traditional lines have been discontinued and the lead time on products still available has extended to 20 weeks or more.
This has created real difficulties for buyers and engineers working with older style coaxial connectors.
They are increasingly faced with the problem of not being able to locate the product they need because it is no longer available or have to accept extended lead times that are potentially damaging from a competitive standpoint.
Identifying suitable alternatives can also be a problem because coaxial connectors are often difficult to evaluate and compare.
The Aerco service consists of holding large stocks of all popular types of coaxial connectors, tools and accessories including many that have already been made obsolete.
Another important part of the service is providing technical advice in evaluating the implications of the differences between similar connectors allowing suitable equivalents to be identified and sourced from a worldwide network of suppliers.
Managing director, Rob Laughton is convinced that the service is badly needed, observing: "We have already helped customers who could not obtain product because of obsolescence or long deliveries and by acting quickly we were able to solve their production problems.
The fact is that although coaxial interconnection is a mature technology, true detailed expertise is hard to find and we believe that the investment we have made in this area will soon pay off, both for us and our customers who have manufacturing and repair deadlines to meet.".
