Industrial Ethernet connector aids port
security
The RJ-Lnxx from Aerco is industry's first IP67 sealed RJ-45 connector that extends Ethernet from boardroom to the factory floor.
The RJ-Lnxx from Aerco is industry's first IP67 sealed RJ-45 connector that extends Ethernet from boardroom to the factory floor Ethernet can supply many advantages to industrial and field applications but it is rarely used in these environments because, until now, the connectors were not designed to withstand harsh conditions

RJ-45 connector allows Ethernet on field devices
Now available in the UK from Aerco is a new industrial RJ-45 connection system that for the first time enables Ethernet and other data communication protocols to be used for industrial field devices.
Watertight extension to Ethernet connector range
The RJ-Lnxx range of IP67 rated industrial RJ45 connectors has been extended to include both male and female overmoulded versions.
A perfect example of its benefits was when the system met the demands for a camera based security system for a port authority in Norway.
In this application a security camera is placed behind a security barrier and this reads the licence plates of vehicles as they arrive.
If recognised, entry is approved and the barrier is automatically raised but if the vehicle is not recognised an alarm call is sent to the security office for a guard to visit the area.
The system also checks vehicles leaving the port and in addition to controlling individual vehicles it has the ability to crossmatch the licence plate of flat bed lorries with the bar code ID numbers of containers and therefore plays a big part in reducing the incidence of container theft.
The system consists of a camera mounted on a pole overlooking the barrier with a data communication lead linking the camera to the computerised control system.
RJ-Lnxx was chosen for this interconnection because it uses a simple twisted pair wire and standard RJ-45 connector.
This provides a simple and low cost solution protected to IP67 and therefore both rainproof and dirt-proof.
The camera body was fitted with an RJ-Lnxx female receptacle pre-assembled into the camera housing at manufacturing stage, but, because the length of the cable between the camera and computer varies from site to site, this was fitted with a male RJ-Lnxx male connector that is field attachable.
The cable is simply cut to length and fitted using an industry standard hand crimp tool thus keeping on-site assemble time to a minimum.
RJ-Lnxx is the only waterproof high speed computer communication that could cope with this outside application and after successful trials the system is now to be installed in other ports in Norway and further afield.
