The Jerome 431-X mercury vapour analyser uses a patented gold film sensor as the basis for its detection system.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) represents a pioneering scheme for the accreditation of collectors and recyclers of end-of-life gas discharge lamps which is supported by the Minister of State for the Environment.
Companies that have signed up to the directive will appreciate the importance of accurate and reliable mercury vapour concentration measurement on the lamp recycling process to ensure that levels in the scrubbed air are within specified limits.
Able Instruments has already assisted one of the key participants with this measurement using the Jerome 431-XE mercury vapour analyser.
The Jerome 431-X mercury vapour analyser uses a patented gold film sensor as the basis for its detection system.
The analyser adsorbs and integrates mercury vapour on to the gold film and registers a change in resistance proportional to the mercury concentration.
The value is then displayed on a backlit digital readout in the range of 0 to 0.999mg/m3 Hg.
The accuracy of the analysis is traceable to NIST standards and is unaffected by the interferences common to other types of instrument - ie water vapour, S02, organic vapours and particulates.
The Jerome 431-X is available with PC software and data logger for automatic sampling and data acquisition.
The analyser can also be used in conjunction with re-usable personal dosimeters to give time-weighted averages of personnel exposure to mercury vapour.
For the specific needs of the lamp recycling industry, Able has designed a sample system which accommodates the high stack humidity condition and facilitates sample delivery with high integrity.
