Measuring heat and moisture exchanger efficiency

An Able Instruments and Controls product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 4, 2002

Able Instruments and Controls has worked successfully with a major HME manufacturer to assess product efficiency.

Manufacturers of heat and moisture exchangers may be interested to know that Able Instruments and Controls has worked successfully with a major HME manufacturer to assess product efficiency by providing a traceable chilled mirror hygrometer to make a primary measurement of humidity on their HME evaluation rig.

The system monitors dew point and temperature on a continuous basis with automatic computation of relative humidity.

Chilled mirror hygrometers are widely regarded as one of the most accurate and reliable instruments for measuring the amount of water in a gas.

Able Instruments and Controls has pioneered numerous design innovations in electronics and sensor technology to advance the capabilities of the chilled mirror hygrometer.

The measurement is based on the fundamental measurement of the temperature at which the evaporation/condensation processes are in equilibrium on the chilled mirror.

This is monitored by a highly stable and accurate platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) embedded in the mirror.

Therefore recalibration and drift issues associated with secondary style measurements need not concern the chilled mirror hygrometer user.
