Moisture analyser puts all oils to the test

An Able Instruments and Controls product story

Able has developed a portable high-performance moisture in oil analyser suitable for all mineral oils including all grades of crude oil, brake fluid, axle, hydraulic and compressor oil.

The design, which is moisture specific, is set to make oil testing easier, safer, faster and cheaper than conventional titration methods.

The Vapor Pro is an alternative to the Karl Fisher titration method, and has been invented to provide a high-precision low-level moisture measurement method, which is fast, easy to use and does not require the use of toxic chemicals.

The technique involves a drying process, however this differs to "loss on drying" methods as a highly accurate humidity sensor measures the moisture content.

This also means there are no large running costs associated with hazardous chemical disposal or any requirement to have specialised glassware available for testing.

In order to be as flexible as possible Able has designed the Vapor Pro with three independent user selectable end testing options: the patented "predict" method, an adjustable rate ending criterion, and a fixed time ending criterion.

Each provides the flexibility to match the test procedures to a given standard method such as Karl Fischer or air oven loss-on-drying methods, to determine moisture content.

The Vapor Pro is accurate in detecting as little as 10ug of water in samples ranging from 10mg to 20g.

The internal oven quickly heats the sample to a programmable test temperature from 25 to 275C and a test can be completed in as little as 3min.

Results are displayed in percent moisture, parts per million moisture, or micrograms of water, and may be outputted to a PC interface via RS232 connection.

Operation is extremely simple and requires no specialist knowledge, as most of the process is automatic and menu driven thus making Able's Vapour Pro ideal for use in the laboratory, shop floor or even on oilrigs or FPSOs.
