New from Able Instruments and Controls, SlugMaster is a novel solution to gas breakout and solids in flow metering.
A fluid that is subject to slugging from heavy aeration, slurry or solid particle entrainment is a challenging application for any flow meter technology.
Able's new SlugMaster technology deals effectively with this challenging application by intelligently switching between two different flow-measurement technologies.
Ultrasonic time of flight metering is used during low aeration periods, and the meter switches to Doppler metering during heavy aeration and slugging, slurry or solid particle entrainment.
The SlugMaster system offers a consistent and accurate metering solution for slugging applications.
Able's ultrasonic time of flight meters boast exceptional measurement accuracy even with small levels of aeration.
In the SlugMaster system, this accuracy is used to calibrate a Tandom Reflexor meter when the process conditions are such that both meter technologies are online.
Therefore, when slugging occurs, the Reflexor is calibrated to the time of flight at the point where the time of flight is just failing to measure due to the aeration or solids.
This makes the Reflexor vastly more accurate and continues to provide measurement during slugging.
Ordinarily, the automatic changeover between these two technologies is difficult to achieve.
With the SlugMaster, an accurate and seamless changeover between the two metering technologies is achieved with unique mathematical software enabling accuracies that exceed the raw changeover of both meters.
The SlugMaster has been rigorously tested under all process conditions at Able's training centre based in Dyce, Aberdeen.
The rig at the training centre offers a fully working process environment and is ideal for product research and development.
During comprehensive factory testing and customer demonstrations, the SlugMaster achieved high accuracies under all test conditions with most tests being within 1% accuracy against the installed Coriolis mass flow meter.
With such performance, this makes the SlugMaster a very accurate solution to challenging metering applications where only clamp-on metering transducers are required; and it achieves exceptional accuracy compared with other metering technologies.
