Pressure switch for explosive areas

An Able Instruments and Controls product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 17, 2009

Able has introduced One Series Ex d, an explosion-proof electronic pressure and temperature switch for Class I, Division 1 (Zone 1) hazardous locations.

Based on the One Series 2W, 4W and 8W electronic design, the One Series Ex d 2X, 4X and 8X models provide an explosion-proof enclosure based on Able's 120 Series mechanical switches.

The One Series Ex d is suited for the rigors of critical areas classified as harsh and hazardous.

The conduit openings, sensor port and mounting holes are in the same locations as the 120 Series, for easy installation.

The One Series Ex d includes cULus, Atex and IECEx approvals for Class I, Division 1 (Zone 1) areas.

These triple-agency approvals provide an instrument that is ready and certified by third-party testing for use in hazardous locations in many parts of the world, including North America, Australia and Europe.

The Russian approval Gosgortechnadzor will be added to the product at a later date.

The One Series can be used as a cost-effective alternative to transmitters used for trip point/on-off service.

Assuming 20-25 per cent of transmitters used for a project are allocated to trip points, the cost savings from moving to the One Series can help reduce the project instrumentation costs and help satisfy clients looking to save money and keep the projects moving forward.

The One Series has been evaluated by Exida, LLC.

Customers can incorporate the One Series into their safety instrumented system designs using the data provided in the FMEDA and SIL Verification reports prepared by Exida.

The installed base of mechanical switches is a natural target for the One Series Ex d.
