Jerome 405 delivers reliable mercury detection

An Able Instruments and Controls product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 20, 2009

The Jerome 405 from Able Instruments and Controls is being successfully used in the offshore oil and gas industry for mercury detection.

Fast and accurate mercury monitoring is vital when breaking containment of pressurised vessels containing hydrocarbons.

The Jerome 405 utilises stable and reliable gold film sensor technology and one-button operation.

The Jerome 405 features ergonomically designed handle, lighter exterior case and lower detection capability (0.5ug/m3).

The Jerome 405's sensor is highly specific for mercury, eliminating interferences common to ultraviolet analysers, such as water vapour and hydrocarbons.

It has a detection range of 0.5-999ug/m3 with an accuracy of +/-10 per cent at 1ug/m3.

Its response time is 12 seconds in sample mode and two seconds in survey mode.

The Jerome 405's lightweight design (2.5kg) makes the device easily portable.

Additional applications and industries utilising the Jerome include: mercury spill response and clean-up; mercury exclusion testing; facility monitoring; source surveys; hazardous waste sites; fluorescent lamps disposal and recycling; worker safety; landfill monitoring; exhaust duct monitoring; and plant environmental monitoring.
