AeroDAC is also the first DOA holder to apply direct regulatory experience to solve certification compliance issues in the aerospace sector.

Altitude Aerospace Interiors (Altitude) has contracted UK-based aeroDAC to achieve European certification of the in-flight entertainment upgrade on 13 Airbus A320-232 aircraft.

The upgrade is being carried out on behalf of Altitude's client, Air New Zealand, which currently operates the aircraft.

The modifications encompass avionics, electrical systems, cabin safety and structures.

The cabin conversion is scheduled for completion by the middle of this year.

The existing broadcast IFE system will be removed and an audio and a video on demand (AVOD) IFE system installed in its place.

This involves the removal and modification of two galley units, together with the installation of a two-socket, in-seat power supply.

For added passenger comfort, the seats will also be modified to increase the pitch.

The aircraft are currently on the New Zealand register.

However, as CAA-NZ (Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand) does not have a bilateral agreement with the EU, Altitude has engaged its European partner, aeroDAC, to handle EASA certification compliance on its behalf.

aeroDAC, an international, EASA-approved design organisation, has the widest scope of any Design Organisation Approval (DOA) granted by EASA.

It is also the first DOA holder to be applying direct regulatory experience to solve certification compliance issues in the aerospace sector.

"With customers in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, the Americas and Europe, we have formed an international network of partners to deliver specialist capability and expertise", explains Michael Pervan, Manager of Altitude.

"aeroDAC, which is part of that alliance, has impressed us not only with its technical capability, but also its ability to meet extremely tight deadlines on our behalf".

Adds Jonathan Howes, aeroDAC's Technical Director: "The scope of the work falls within our certification service tailored for clients' individual requirements and we appreciate the close co-operation achieved between our two organisations".
