Controller co-ordinates up to four robots
The IRC5 is the fifth generation robot controller from ABB and is claimed as the biggest technological step forward since the introduction of the first generation S1 in 1974.
The programme features the battery-free Genstart System that increases starting reliability for up to 8MW of multiple standby engine generators and individual Genstart modules that can supply 1725 cold-cranking amps to generator set starter motors.
Both products supply engine generators with assured starting power when it's most critical - at startup.
With this program, Active Power now offers these products to end-users with existing generator installations as well as users of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) that include Active Power's battery-free CleanSource UPS systems.

"The leading reason for generator start failures is dead batteries, so Active Power developed the Genstart generator set starting system to replace or parallel with existing batteries", explained Sriram Sivaram, Active Power's Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
"This robust system can draw power from any existing UPS, flywheel- or battery-based, and adds additional 'nines' of availability for multiple gensets by supplying 1725 cold cranking amps to assure the generator has power to start".
Backed by a one-year warranty, the Genstart battery-free systems are available now.
They meet the highest safety and performance standards including listings from UL, FCC and CSA.
Each Genstart module converts three-phase 480V AC from an uninterrupted power source to 24V DC to supply immediate genset start power.
The Genstart System incorporates Active Power's highly reliable CleanSource energy storage flywheel to deliver 250kW of power to the starting modules for additional reliability of the overall configuration.
Standard features include rapid 2.5s recharge, serial communications, LCD monitoring and control panel, programmable I/O contacts and self-diagnostics.
An optional battery paralleling capability allows configuration of redundant DC voltage sources using either batteries or, for highest availability, multiple Genstart modules.
Other options include Genstart 24V genset start power, remote notification and monitoring, CSView real-time monitoring software, remote emergency power off, four-wire input and output, Modbus and SNMP interfaces, internal maintenance bypass and OSHPD pre-approved seismic Zone-4 anchoring capability.
