Compact servo amplifiers tune themselves

Aerotech has launched a new range of inexpensive, but high performance, servo amplifiers which automatically tune themselves and can be adjusted dynamically "on the fly" while running a program

Motion control specialist Aerotech has launched a new range of inexpensive, but high performance, servo amplifiers The new BA Intellidrive servo amplifiers satisfy the need for motion control across the broadest range of applications

Commonly encountered brushed DC servo and brushless motors can both be controlled using the BA intelligent servo drive.

The drive is capable of point-to-point motion via a stored program which is initiated from an input.

Acceleration, deceleration and velocity parameters are all predefined and the drive can be programmed using a hand held terminal or a PC connected to the BA unit via an RS232 interface.

This RS232 facility also enables commands to be sent directly to the drive for immediate execution.

The BA Intellidrive also accepts standard pulse and direction inputs for a closed loop pulse follower for upgrading stepper motor systems.

Sine commutation is used to provide smooth motion and a digital position and velocity loop enables precise control.

The amplifier is exceptionally simple to install and set up.

Most tuning and motion parameters can be set using simple plain English menus and simple programs are stored and executed in the BA Intellidrive.

A major advantage of the amplifier is that it automatically tunes itself and can also be adjusted dynamically "on the fly" while running a program.

Perhaps the most immediately striking feature of the BA Intellidrive is its remarkably small size.

The unit measures just 73mm (2.88 inches) wide by 184mm (7.25 inches) tall and is a mere 127mm (5 inches) deep.

The modular construction is ideal for panel builders since only an AC input power is required.

Three models are offered with continuous output powers of 1360W, 2720W and 4080W to cover a broad range of applications.

Five operating modes are possible: velocity, torque, indexer, direction and teach. Request a free brochure from Aerotech ...
