The NuDrive is a competitively priced, high performance digital servo amplifier with IEEE1394 FireWire interface for use with the Aerotech A3200 digital automation platform.

Aerotech has released the NuDrive - a competitively priced, high performance digital servo amplifier with IEEE1394 FireWire interface - designed for use with its A3200 digital automation platform for extremely cost effective multi-axis motion control applications.

With a peak output of 10A at 80V DC and continuous rating of 5A, the NuDrive features a DSP controlled PWM amplifier stage with current, position and velocity sampling rates of up to 20kHz for excellent positioning performance and speed stability.

NuDrive has dual FireWire ports for easy networking of multiple drives, each receiving real-time position and velocity update information from the A3200.

Available for use with a wide range of Aerotech standard rotary, direct-drive rotary and linear brushless servomotors, the NuDrive drive can also be configured for use with DC brushed and with stepper motors.

As standard, the NuDrive includes an encoder interface, dedicated end of travel limit switches, hall-effect sensor inputs and an emergency stop input.

Control options include an eight-input, eight-output user-defined I/O expansion board with screw terminal connection, plus a 16bit analogue input, an 18bit analogue output and a relay output, suitable for a brake.

Further options include a programmable encoder multiplier for up to x1024 quadrature output.

An externally mounted, finned heatsink is available for higher power applications and provision is made to include a 40W shunt resistor.

The NuDrive requires an external power supply (60 to 80V DC at 10A) which is available from Aerotech and an option is available for a separate auxiliary logic supply input which may be used for "keep alive" use.

The ultracompact size of the NuDrive at just 158 x 42 x 118mm will allow several units to be housed in a relatively small machine control cabinet or individual NuDrives can be conveniently distributed on the machine, close to the corresponding motor allowing only minimal wiring of the DC voltage from a power supply and the FireWire connection to the A3200 network.

Aerotech's A3200 digital automation platform is a powerful, software only machine control system combining a high-performance, 32-axis motion engine and other machine control function modules such as HMI and soft PLC for a completely integrated solution with decentralised drives interfaced via its Firewire interface.

The NuDrive joins a family of Aerotech digital servo amplifiers with peak ratings up to 100A and DC bus voltages to 320V DC in PWM and linear drive-stage designs.

Single packaged drives with direct-online power supply or multi axis rack mounted drives may be mixed to suit specific requirements and additional features available include dual encoder inputs, USB and 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports for I/O modules.

The A3200 digital automation platform is used in applications ranging from semiconductor, data storage, laser processing, automotive, and machine tool industries and includes a wide range of advanced motion control features and commands aimed at increasing and improving product quality and throughput performance.

The NuDrive will help reduce the overall cost of such applications and will be of particular interest to machine builders and manufacturers of medium power automated machinery such as packaging and processing equipment.

Aerotech design and manufacture mechanical position systems and associated control and drive products for a very wide range of production, test and research applications All Aerotech systems are supplied complete with motor power and encoder cables, performance and calibration related documents and a CD with complete interconnection drawings to help integrators with their own system documentation.

In addition, all motor parameter setup data for the software configuration file is included; with full technical support and product training always on hand, system commissioning is straightforward requiring little more than connecting cables and applying power before programming application software.

These features are built into every Aerotech product ensuring that the true cost of ownership is extremely competitive.
