Compressors equip one of Europe's top
bakeries
Walkers Shortbread's new facility needed a reliable, energy efficient air compressor system to power pneumatically operated bakery machinery and instrumentation.
Walkers Shortbread has grown from strength to strength, with its products sold in more than 60 countries all over the world The company has built a new 6500m2 factory to support its four existing Speyside factories, which last year manufactured over 50 million packets of shortbread

By analysing performance data of the old unit and comparing it to the energy footprint of the new system, Airchannel was able to demonstrate the energy reduction if the CompAir unit was selected.
The new facility needs a reliable, energy efficient air compressor system to power pneumatically operated bakery machinery and instrumentation.
Airchannel has developed a 20 year working relationship with Walkers, always on-hand to offer advice on equipment when it is needed.
A dependable duty/standby compressor system, with downstream equipment is essential to supply clean, efficient, dry compressed air.
After understanding Walkers' requirements, Airchannel planned a precise package to suit the needs, recommending: Hydrovane variable speed air compressors with "food grade" coolant; low dewpoint energy efficient desiccant type dryers; filtration and activated carbon towers; with a Transair advanced aluminium tubing system supplying energy efficient compressed air around the new factory.
Walkers now operates from one of Europe's most modern bakeries, combining new technology, quality ingredients and traditional methods, to produce an expanding range.
Significantly, all the equipment provided has proven reliability and will help to reduce the factory's overall energy costs, as well as having saved valuable space because of the compressor's small footprint.
It also complies with the new British Retail Consortium guidelines for the use of compressed air with in the food industry.
"A reliable supply of clean dry air, using the most energy efficient equipment was our paramount requirement for the new factory", says James Walker, CBE, Director of Walkers Shortbread.
"And this is exactly what has been delivered".
"Thanks to our long standing association with Airchannel, we were able to have confidence in them getting us the equipment to suit our needs, letting us get on with what we have become world famous for".
