Nitrogen gas supply cuts packaging costs
Maxigas is a cost-effective alternative to gas cylinders and liquid dewars with fewer on-going costs such as refills, delivery costs and order processing.
The Newton Aycliffe branch of Airchannel has supplied Ringtons with a Maxigas nitrogen generator, manufactured by Domnick Hunter By making its own gas on site, Ringtons can now cost-effectively satisfy its nitrogen gas requirements for the modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of its tea and coffee

MAP is a process in which nitrogen is flushed into packaged foods to prevent oxidation and aerobic spoilage by typically reducing oxygen levels to below 1%.
It helps to maintain flavour and crispness without using artificial preservatives.
For many years, Ringtons had operated a conventional PSA system to meet their nitrogen requirements.
However, with hire charges of around GBP11,000 per annum plus additional gas costs, the company identified the opportunity to save costs and selected a Maxigas nitrogen generator.
"The Maxigas range of nitrogen generators produce nitrogen from compressed air, effectively enabling Ringtons to make their own nitrogen at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods of supply", says Alastair Shanks, Managing Director of Airchannel.
Installed at the Ringtons site in Longbenton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Maxigas is a cost-effective alternative to gas cylinders and liquid dewars with fewer on-going costs such as refills, delivery costs and order processing.
Ringtons is already benefiting from reduced down-time associated with changing cylinders through an on-demand high-purity food grade supply.
It is also safer than high-pressure containers as man-handling is eliminated.
