New exhibitors come to safety show

An Australian Exhibitions and Conferences product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 9, 2007

Sydney Materials Handling is a show dedicated to load, move and shift solutions co-located with The Safety Show Sydney.

Around 30% of The Safety Show Sydney's exhibitors will be new and there will be other fresh attractions when NSW's largest workplace safety event returns from 24th to 26th October.

Also new in 2007 is the creation of Sydney Materials Handling, a show dedicated to load, move and shift solutions co-located with The Safety Show Sydney.

Together, The Safety Show Sydney and Sydney Materials Handling are on target to host almost 400 suppliers of occupational health and safety (OHS) products and services across more than three and a half acres at the Sydney Showground.

While the spread of products ranges from asbestos removal right through to workplace wellness programs, the official feature areas include corporate health; height safety; building; electrical engineering; technology and training; and - new this year - automated safety.

The technology on show will be complemented by advice from Principal Sponsor, WorkCover NSW, which will offer 18 workshops over The Safety Show Sydney's three days.

The regulator will offer small business tools to measure safety levels, explain how business can access its programs and invite organisations to join its mentoring programs.

Lucky visitors will win US $200 cash prizes on the hour each afternoon and there will be a free sausage sizzle on Friday.

Beyond the fun events however, lies some very serious business, says exhibition organiser, Australian Exhibition and Conference's Marie Kinsella.

"Researchers told us that around US $9.5 million of business was written at The Safety Show Sydney last year and 77% of visitors said they would definitely be back again this time, while another 21% said they might revisit the show in 12 months".

"That demonstrates just how important it is to business to keep investing in safety".

Those keen to enrich their professional OHS knowledge can register as delegates to The Safety Conference, which is held concurrently with the two trade shows.

The conference programme boasts a list of high-profile and expert speakers, including former Beaconsfield mine manager, Matthew Gill, who will explore the lessons learnt from the tragedy and rescue.

Conference themes will include training and development; corporate governance and business sustainability; change management; critical incident management; preparation, recovery and investigation; practical risk management solutions; and the human face of safety.
