An AJM Automation product story

A new company, AJM Automation, has been set up in Derby to supply the CTC touch screen workstations made by CTC Parker Automation in America to UK users.

The CTC range is based on a single PC-based scalable workstation family called PowerStation, plus an expandable HMI software programme called Interact.

Thus all CTC units are completely interchangeable and a seamless upgrade path is provided.

"The PowerStation family offers a range of workstations or HMIs (human-machine interfaces) from a simple 6in control panel replacement product to a high performance PC with a full colour 15in screen," explains AJM founder Andy Markgraf.

Their modular designs permit individual selection of processor, display, expansion and storage capabilities to exactly match application requirements.

A built-in Ethernet and a flash memory port position PowerStations as probably the most innovative HMIs currently available.

Every PowerStation unit comes bundled with Interact machine control HMI software, which offers graphics monitor, alarms, recipes, datalogging, reporting, networking, etc, etc.

MachineLogic can also be installed, this being the world's first PC logic controller (PCLC).

AJM is also able to offer Parker's Ethernet connectable 6K Compumotor servo driver for motion control applications, a fact that won the new company its first order.

"Within days of setting up AJM Automation, BSL Engineering had ordered four systems from us for a precision motor manufacturing application," enthuses Markgraf.

"These were based on our mid-range P2 PowerStations interfacing with the Compumotor 6K servo driver over the built-in Ethernet, and the Siemens S7-200 PLC and have helped convert dedicated one-product machines into flexible multi-product systems.

Changeover from one product to the next is by one button push on the touch screen.

This order was closely followed by another, for several of our largest P9 controllers.

So we are off to a flying start!" AJM has already formed an association with LPS Engineering in High Wycombe, who will undertake special purpose design and build work for the company, is working on a programme of training courses for prospective users, and has established a website.

Markgraf sums up: "End users are beginning to demand workstations as their preferred method of plant control because they are so easy to use and can be effortlessly adapted to reflect changing circumstances.

This trend radically altering control systems requirements, so machine builders need the expertise and support of specialist suppliers.

The whole thrust of AJM is to address and satisfy this demand so that the machine builders can concentrate on supporting their customers.".
