Control system takes on radioactive water
Bechtel National has chosen ABB IndustrialIT as the plant wide control platform for the Department of Energy's (DOE) Hanford Waste Treatment Plant near Richland, WA.
The project now on its way currently involves the modernisation of Synthesis Plant A which will be carried out in the course of the next eight to ten years.
The multiproduct, multithread plant will produce primary materials for the pharmaceutical industry in twelve plant areas all designed in accordance with the standards defined by GAMP/FDA (21 CFR Part 11).
ABB will provide an estimated 40 intrinsically safe S900 remote I/Os which will collect data from about 2000 instruments connected to ControlIT AC800F modules via Profibus DP lines.
OperateIT operator stations will also be incorporated into the production plant.
An integral part of this project is the complete compilation of all validation documents, specification sheets, and data associated with engineering.
As part of the MES package, the ABB Production Manager will be used for the eventual coupling of SAP and for the installation of the planned production information management system (PIMS).
Engineering of the plant, including the complex recipe program-definition, is expected to be completed by the autumn of 2002.
According to Rainer Roth, Marketing Head of the ABB Life Sciences Division, "Boehringer Ingelheim is happy about the degree of transparency surrounding our IndustrialIT offering and is pleased with the extensive validation know-how ABB possesses".
Roth continued, "Boehringer placed particular emphasis on the cooperation which existed between the entire project team including Marketing, Engineering, Service and Product Management.
This aspect of cooperation was one of the main reasons ABB won this contract".
