Software creates 3D manikins

An Applied PLM Solutions product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 20, 2007

Through prediction algorithms and anthropometric data, Ramsis accurately models human in-cabin behaviour, helping refine both cabin and equipment designs.

Applied PLM Solutions has announced the UK launch of Ramsis anthropometric software, which is currently used by more than 70% of the world's car makers to improve cabin space ergonomics using digital manikins.

Through prediction algorithms and anthropometric data, the software accurately models human in-cabin behaviour, helping refine both cabin and equipment designs.

Ramsis' 3D manikins behave like real drivers by steering, braking, operating infotainment systems, looking at the road, using mirrors and changing gear.

Areas of sharp internal and external visibility can be defined precisely; bodywork and other glare reduced, while posture, comfort and safety are improved.

Using up to date anthropometry databases from around the world, a large variety of physical types can be simulated with Ramsis, target vehicle populations accurately applied to potential designs, and improvements made to, for example: instrument panels, seat belt routing and general layout.

Shaun Clark, Applied MD says: "Ramsis enhances our existing design to manufacture PLM portfolio and is especially suited to users who need the advanced human simulation that this software provides".

"By effectively reducing the distinction between virtual and real cabins and their occupants, Ramsis is a boon to car, plane and industrial vehicle designers and ergonomists who must deliver ever-higher levels of comfort, safety and usability".

"Because Ramsis is based on real people and their actions it stands alone in the market and fills a growing need for absolute realism in the design process".

Peter van der Meulen, responsible for international business development at Ramsis' developer, Human Solutions, adds: "The UK is a strategically important market for human solutions".

"Digital product development and prototyping is becoming increasingly important and ergonomics has traditionally played a crucial role".

"By teaming up with Applied, a leading provider of digital product design solutions, customers will be able to source Ramsis software and services from an established player in the UK market".
