Sensors monitor industrial processes

An Alpine Components product story

Alpine has added to its range of handheld instruments with two niche products from automation specialist IFM Electronic.

Alpine has added to its range of handheld instruments with two niche products from automation specialist IFM Electronic.

The first is the Efector Octavis condition-monitoring vibration sensor, designed to keep watch over roller bearings.

It is simple to install, can be used as a quick alert to problems and also has the capability for full FFT spectral analysis.

Efector Octavis indicates damage progress with yellow LEDs.

As the problem gets more serious the bearing monitor shows red LEDs.

At this stage the operator should act at once.

The second is the Efector Metris that measures the flow or volume of compressed air (or other piped gases) continuously.

According to Jeremy Lineham of Alpine Components: "I was convinced that this would be a great product for Alpine when I visited a plant manufacturing ink jet cartridges".

"They use silica in the process to effectively sand blast the miniature PCBs that are on each cartridge".

"Over time, leaks develop causing poor quality (as well as wasting air), and it can be some time before the leak is noticed".

"With these units in each of the feed lines the problem could be identified immediately".
