The Level 1 Ultrasound Course is run in conjunction with UE Training Systems and conforms to guidelines set by the ASNT.
The next Level 1 Ultrasound Course is to be held at the The National Fluid Power Centre in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, from 21st to 25th April.
The course is designed for any user or potential user of an ultrasonic detector.
The five-day course, the fifth so far, is run in conjunction with UE Training Systems and conforms to guidelines set by the ASNT (American Society for Nonestructive Testing).
Successful attendees will be awarded with their Level 1 qualification and will be known as Certified Inspectors - Airborne Ultrasound Level I.
Day one covers the basics of ultrasound, theory of sound, concepts and definitions, typical applications, inspection equipment and recording and reporting inspections results.
The second day is more hands-on and covers concepts and definitions of airborne ultrasound, detection methods (pressure and vacuum), liquid leak amplification, gross-to-fine method, noisy environments and shielding techniques, boilers, condensers and heat exchangers and determining CFM loss and cost savings.
The third day covers electrical applications.
Students will be given an overview of electrical equipment, concepts and definitions, safety considerations, combining infra-red and ultrasound, high and low-voltage inspections, substation inspections, confirmation methods and radio frequency interference (RFI).
The fourth day covers structure borne ultrasound, predictive maintenance concepts, troubleshooting and trending principles, mechanical inspection overview, inspecting fans, motors, pumps and valves, steam trap inspections, bearing monitoring and lubrication, levels of failure and data logging and spectral analysis.
On the final day, ultrasound will be reviewed, as will applications and test methods, followed by the examination.
