The new curriculum was developed based on feedback from leading engineering programs at top universities.
"The new curriculum provides practical instruction and examples", said Algor Product Manager, Bob Williams.
"All materials are maintained by Algor so that they reflect our continual software enhancements and are consistent in style with the tutorials, accuracy verification examples and documentation included with the software.
This provides an integrated, well-defined learning experience that is beneficial to both students and professors".
"The course curriculum and supporting materials that Algor provides with its university software licence are essential tools for bringing FEA into the classroom", said Ghanashyam Joshi, PhD, PE, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
"The availability of this curriculum was an important factor in my choice to use Algor software to prepare my students for professional careers in engineering".
The course curriculum consists of instructor manuals and CD-ROMs.
The "FEA in practice" manual provides a practical, introductory look at FEA.
Beyond providing basic FEA theory, this manual guides students through the process of building models, setting up and performing linear static stress analyses including contact and evaluating results.
It also includes supplementary information about different element types, linear and nonlinear material models, mesh convergence, thermal analyses and presentation options.
The Solutions Manual provides detailed steps for all of the exercises in the "FEA in practice" manual.
All of the example models are provided on a CD-ROM.
An additional instructor's CD-ROM contains electronic versions of the manuals and slides that can be used during classroom lectures.
Addenda focusing on special topics such as gear design are available on request.
Beginning in May 2003, "FEA in practice" will be included with each university licence.
