Wider applicability for replaceable pH electrodes

An Amalgamated Instrument product story

AIC is offering a new variant of its replaceable element pH electrode range, with the housing for the electrode, which is not replaced, modified to eliminate any metal to solution contact

Amalgamated Instrument Co (AIC) is offering a new variant of their very successful replaceable element pH electrode range.

In the same way that a ball point pen can be fitted with a replacement ink cartridge, so the new pH electrodes from Amalgamated Instrument Co allow replacement of the element containing the actual sensing membrane and reference electrode.

The housing for the electrode, which is not replaced, has been modified to eliminate any metal to solution contact.

This enhances the applications for which the electrodes can be used.

The housing contains the connections, cabling and temperature compensation sensor.

An new inline adapter is also now available making insertion into a process easier and quicker.

This minimises expensive downtime and avoids twisting the electrode cable.

Also available is a ball valve assembly that can eliminate downtime when changing a pH electrode.

The probe is partially withdrawn, the valve is closed and then the electrode assembly can be fully withdrawn for maintenance or element replacement.

The process is not interrupted and measurement and control are only lost for a short time.

As the pH electrode life expires, the electrode can be easily withdrawn through either of the new adapters and a replacement cartridge can be simply screwed into the housing.

Another great advantage of this design is the ability to change electrode types without replacing an entire sensor.

Two styles of replaceable elements are available at present - a conventional bulb element with a protective shield and a flat surface element that is ideal for use in viscous solutions or flowing solutions containing particulates.

The electrodes offer superior response and a temperature range 0øC to 80øC.

A user need only buy 1 housing and the electrodes can be replaced easily.

This means a huge saving in cost and, with the adapters, represents an efficient and economical way of keeping a process online.
