Amalgamated Instrument Co has a novel wind speed and direction sensor with no moving parts.

Amalgamated Instrument Co has a novel wind speed and direction sensor with no moving parts.

The sensor uses a special solid-state device to measure speed and direction based on detected temperature differences on the chip surface as the wind passes over it.

The temperature differences are processed by an onboard microprocessor to produce RS232 or RS422 serial output signals indicating wind speed and wind direction.

The sensor is manufactured with an IP65 environmental rating and, as such, is highly resistant to humidity, pollution, salt spray and precipitation.

It is very easy to set up.

For industrial applications the sensor base is bolted to a support and the sensor head is clipped into the base after being aligned to North.

For marine applications, such as yachts or other vessels, the sensor is installed with the orientation towards the bow of the vessel.

The display will then be speed and direction in relation to the direction of vessel movement.

The sensor requires a supply of 12V DC.

Wind speed can be measured from 0 to 25m/s (90km/h) with a threshold of 0.2m/s and an accuracy of +/-3% Wind direction is continuous 0 to 360 degrees with a +/- 3degree accuracy.

The technology used in this sensor offers accurate and dependable wind speed measurement for a wide range of applications.
